Before my amazing grandmother Katherine Gordon transitioned to the other side (passed away) she always use to take periodic get aways to one of the most beautiful, enchanted places on earth, Hawaii! She always dreamed of taking the whole family from her kids to the grandkids. But unfortunately she never got the chance due to that bitch “cancer”. As years passed I went on with life, started doing more music online recently for this website called Airgigs which provided me with supplemental income as a side hustle while also connecting to international producers, songwriters and artist. The would hire me by contracting me out to help flush an idea out or rap/song write by collaborating with them. So I did this for a few months and became pretty successful at it. later I got a gig to do a song about police brutality and social injustice which is nothing new to me since I've been addressing this since beginning of my adult career with songs like “Era of Assassination” adressing that powerful leaders advocating for peace and real justice in this world especially America always get executed for speaking the truth. This project was another chance for me to express al the press going in the news.
The client that had hired me was named Darcel a singer from Hawaii who vioce surprisingly did not match the way he looked A incredible talent indeed. Which the funny part was I didnt know Black people actually lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, this messed me up and made me be more open minded. Anyhow after i completed the project months later Darcel reached back out to me to tell me that he really liked the song and wants to shoot a official video for it and really believes it could change the world with the message and the climate being where it is. So at first he suggested we shoot our scenes separately, me and Nashville and him in Hawaii due to Covid which was understandable. Then the director of the video Katrin had a change of heart and thought it actually be better wand more impactful with us together in the video to give it a more genuine appeal. Made sense to me, not to mention on top of that they were going to fly me out to Hawaii for absolutely free to accomplish this video. Which I was super hype for, seems my grandmother final wish was coming true her grandbaby flying to big Island.
This trip was a much needed one due to all the stress of being stuck at home in quarantine. I need to get away plus being a Sagittarius we are adventurers at heart. It was once said if Sags could fly for free you would never see them again, pretty funny and most likely the truth. I was in much need of a vacay nonetheless and this was my opportunity to escape the monotonous day in day out routine. So as I mention my past story “The Rebuilding of Foundation” I was going through a shift and a awakening weeks prior to stepping foot on the plane. So i knew deep inside this was a trip to a new beginning and journey.
When I landed it immediately felt like I was home like my grandmother energy was welcoming me, I sometimes like to think after she transitioned from this life her sprit went to where she most resonated with which would be Hawaii maybe all the times she had been there to visit that became home in the after life, the natives do state the island embodies a very spiritual energy there and you can feel it no matter where you might roam on the island you feel somethings there with you. The island was everything i expected and more just breathtaking every time you’d stare at the ocean and the rainbows the landscape it would just captivate you in a way you haven't been before. This experienced lasted the whole trip. Darcel picked me up from the airport and Honolulu fashion, we then went to go to the house where I would be staying with him and his roommates which ending up being super cool people other hand if I had to stay at a hotel I would have to stay in quarantine for 14 days which would've meant no video for our song “ World on Fire” which is doing fairly good on the charts with over 11k streams on you tube currently, go stream it! However staying at his house would allow us to sneak out and avoid getting just to shoot the video. We felt like criminals because just weeks in prior there were people who were kicked out off the island like “Survivor” back to the main lands due not quarantining and bluntly just doing way too much.
Since the authorities were cracking down big time meant we had to be super strategic to shoot the video meaning me, Darcel, and the whole camera crew which all were from Russia and very talented by the way with thousand of dollars of high quality gear. This video shoot would require serious planning . Although the formula was already completed and I was debrief prior to touching down in Hawaii on certain scenes and storyboards. The Russian camera team was very professional , meticulous and specific how they want to shoot the image and portray injustice in America. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!
